I live in the beautiful seaside village of Purakaunui in New Zealand and this channel is my way of sharing some of the stunning wild life and scenery of this area and beyond . I hope you enjoy :)
Camping with the Cheeky Weka !
Large, flightless bird endemic to New Zealand. Can be very curious, especially when living around people. Extinct over large tracts of the mainland. Variable plumage. Most birds are predominantly light brown with red eyes, a broad pointed bill, and strong legs. Often detected by characteristic “cooeet” calls given at dawn and in early evening .

Leopard seals primarily inhabit the Antarctic pack ice, but during autumn and winter animals disperse northward throughout the Southern Ocean, sometimes visiting New Zealand. This one came ashore to rest in Purakaunui inlet , Otago , New Zealand , 10th September 2022 .

These colorful birds are becoming regular visitors to my garden , sharing the kowhai tree with the tuis , bellbirds and kereru ! Natives of Southeastern Australia they were originally introduced to New Zealand as caged birds and were released in this area in 1910 . Filmed with Canon SX60HS . I love Kererus they are so cute 🥰. In my garden I have wood pigeon (ramiers) wich really look like little Kererus... they are bigger than the normal grey pigeons and so cute 🥰

They are the slimmest among all seal species, always tired and red-eyed. One wonders, how do they even survive in the cold waters without a fat layer under their skin... 🐻❄🏔 Beautiful animal. 🤗

I can't tell if that is a rap battle between two rival males or a male/female couple. The females are smaller than males. That looks like two males fighting it out, but it often turns nasty with physical attacking between males, whereas these two are quite civil.
